Thanks to the combined effects of dry and warm winter at the end of last year, the flowering ratio this year is high, which may lead to an on-year. The flowering ratio of both lychee and longan in Guangdong has increased year-on-year.
The flowering ratio of longan is about 85%, and that of the early lychee varieties of feizixiao and baitangying is about 80%, on a par with last year. The flowering ratio of mid-season lychee varieties of heiye and baila is about 65%, showing a significant increase from last year.
It is reported that this year's on-year has much to do with the climate. Thanks to the favorable weather, the flowering season has come earlier this year. The lack of rain since the flowering period started, together with sufficient nutrients in the soil, led to good differentiation of buds and a fast growth of inflorescence. In the coming weeks, if no bad weather is ahead and farmers do a good job in fertilization, pruning, prevention, and disease and insect control, a bumper harvest is on the horizon.
Insiders said that the total production this year is expected to be 10% to 20% higher than the last, but the initial market price may be a little lower than last year.
