Lychee market enters key period

11 thousand tons of Vietnamese lychees enter Chinese market

The price of Chinese fruit has been relatively high for the last two months. The price of lychee is no exception. The reasons for this situation are as follows: first, the winter temperature was too high and the spring was wet and cold. These weather conditions reduced the overall production volume of Chinese lychee. Second, the price of lychee was low last year because the harvest was abundant. Many farmers decided to reduce the surface area devoted to lychee production. This year supply does not meet demand. The price therefore went up.

More than 11 thousand tons of Vietnamese lychee recently arrived in China through Lao Cai port. The overall value of this shipment was around 6 million USD. This shipment marks the start of the Southeast Asian lychee season, which will put a limit on the price increase of Chinese lychee.
