Price of fresh Chinese pears continues to rise

The prices of Ya pears and Imperial Crown pears began to rise in May. Surveillance data from the Chinese Fruit Distribution Association shows that the average wholesale price of Imperial Crown pears increased from 8.95 yuan [1.30 USD] per kg to around 13.24 yuan [1.92 USD] per kg in May. The average wholesale price of Ya pears increased from 7.14 yuan [1.03 USD] per kg to 9.3 yuan [1.35 USD] per kg. The average wholesale price of Crispy pears increased from 6.14 yuan [0.89 USD] per kg to 8.15 yuan [1.18 USD] per kg. The price is in constant fluctuation.

Baitou in Hebei is known as the Chinese "hometown of Ya pears". The overall area devoted to pear trees in this area reached 16,667 hectares this year. More than 90% of the trees are Ya pear and Imperial Crown pear trees. The overall production volume in Baitou reaches 500 thousand tons in a regular year. A cold current in spring last year affected half the pear trees in Baitou. The production volume declined by 35%. The price naturally increased.
