Xie Lei, a data analyst at the Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Market, stated that the wholesale price of bok choy in the Xinfadi Market is currently around 0.55-0.65 yuan [0.08-0.09 USD] per 0.5 kg, which is a price drop of 4% in comparison with the wholesale price of 0.55-0.7 yuan [0.08-0.10 USD] per 0.5 kg last week. It is also a price drop of 25% in comparison with the wholesale price of 0.7-0.9 yuan [0.10-0.13 USD] per 0.5 kg last year.
There was barely any summer bok choy on the market around this time last year because production areas suffered from a cold current in early spring. The price was therefore extraordinarily high. This year the supply volume is quite regular in comparison with previous years, even though the weather is less than perfect. Data analyst Xie Lei stated that the bok choy from winter storage will soon sell out and summer bok choy will completely dominate the market.
