China is the largest export market for Vietnamese mangoes

Data from the Vietnamese Ministry of Commerce shows that the value of Vietnamese mango exports has rapidly increased in recent years. The value was 46 million USD in 2015, 68 million USD in 2016, and 156 million USD in 2017. The export value of mangoes and related manufactured products reached 193 million USD in 2018, which is an increase of 24% in comparison with 2017. Mango export accounts for 5% of Vietnam's fruit and vegetable export. China is the largest export market for Vietnamese mangoes, absorbing 84.6% of the Vietnamese mango export volume.

Most mango plantations are in the south of Vietnam. The overall surface area devoted to mango plantation in south Vietnam exceeds 80 thousand hectares. The Vietnamese province with the largest mango production is Dong Thap Province with a surface area devoted to mango plantation that measures 9,200 hectares. Data from the horticultural association of Dong Thap shows that the province exported more than 2,500 tons of mangoes in 2018, with around 1,550 tons destined for China and 850 tons headed to Korea and Japan. Other destinations include Australia, the Middle East, and Russia. These are relatively new export markets for Vietnamese mangoes.
