Chinese orange prices may become polarized

The production of oranges in China greatly expanded in recent years. The production volume is expected to grow even further in 2019. The surface area of orange trees that will come into production in 2019 increased. The price of oranges may show polarization: new product varieties and oranges with a relatively small surface area devoted to their plantation will maintain a strong price and even show increase; Shatang oranges and other common varieties will suffer from weaker prices. In some of the newer production areas these orange varieties may even become unmarketable.

The production volume of Orah mandarins continues to grow in 2019, and the price keeps falling. The price of good-quality Orah mandarins in the harvest season of 2018/2019 was 2-4 yuan [0.30-0.60 USD] per 0.5 kg, but that price will probably drop this year.
