China: Guangxi mandarins become unmarketable

This is the harvest season of Nanfeng mandarins in major production areas in Quanzhou County, Lingchuan County, and Xing'an County, in Guilin, Guangxi. The sales of Nanfeng mandarins, however, is limited. The price has dropped as low as 0.25 yuan [0.04 USD] per kg, and in some areas the Nanfeng mandarin is unmarketable. Fruit farmers suffered huge losses.

The main reason for this development is excessive market supply. Almost every mandarin production area in China produces this type of mandarin, and their market supply reduces their market share. There is an additional reason, apart from excessive market supply, which is that weather in Guangxi has been poor. It frequently rained and this affects the flavor of mandarins.
