China: Red Fuji apple production areas and markets are in deadlock

Apple farmers have already begun to sell apples from their own storage this year, but the trade volume of stored apples is not great. The reason for this situation is that both farmers and retailers are hesitant to trade. They both have great expectations of the price of apples from cold storage later this season. This has caused a price increase for red Fuji apples from cold storage.

Frost in early April reduced the overall apple production volume in Yuncheng, Shanxi, by 60-70% this year. The overall market supply volume of apples is small this year. Tangerines and pomelos from south China dominate the market this year, and apples are difficult to find, and the ones that are still in cold storage are expensive.

The apple price in Shanxi broke a historical record this year, while the price of tangerines and pomelo in south China is at an all-time low. Either apples are unavailable or too expensive. Production areas and markets are in deadlock. This will certainly affect the price of apples after Spring Festival in early February.
