Lebanese bananas regain access to Syria

The Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade of Syria has allowed the importation of bananas from Lebanon once again, after it was suspended last year.

The Syrian government reported a week ago (October 28th) that the necessary licenses for bananas to be exported from Lebanon to Syria have started being arranged, and that 10 of them have already been granted.

According to the report, based on the approvals granted to date, the volume of Lebanese bananas expected to arrive to Syria would be no lower than 50 thousand tons. The price of each shipment was estimated at $ 250,000.

As Lebanese bananas enter the Syrian market, Somali bananas are expected to record price drops.

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Syrian regime approved the proposal of the Ministry of Economy and Internal Trade of November 2017. The plan is to open the door to the export of five kilograms of Syrian citrus to Lebanon for every kilo of Lebanese bananas.
