China: Qiuyue pear harvest affected by the climate

“The Qiuyue Pear is a Japanese variety. Since it was introduced to China by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences a few years ago, this variety has been popular among Chinese consumers because of its crisp texture and sweet flavour. This year’s Qiuyue pear season is underway and in terms of the overall operation, production and prices are relatively stable,” said fruit grower and distributor, Mr. Xi.

"This year's autumn harvest kicked off in late July. By the end of September, the supply period of the stored fruit will end. Due to the sufficient quantity of my cold storage fruit, the supply period lasts for more than 4 months. We harvested Qiuyue pears in China for the third time this year, we use pure natural organic seeds and do not weed or use artificial agents or preservatives during the planting process. The Qiuyue pears produced are fresh and juicy. Since it has been recognized by domestic consumers, the sales situation is very good."

“Like most agricultural products, the output of Qiuyue Pear is mainly affected by the climate. This year, we are lucky, and have not experienced too much extreme weather. The Korla pear in Xinjiang and the Yulu Pear in Shanxi Province have been affected badly by the typhoon this year, reducing production by 80%. Last week's Typhoon Mangkhut caused different degrees of impact on many growers, but since we have reached the end of picking, the impact on Qiuyue pear is very limited."

“At this stage, under the name of our own brand 'Xi Guoguo', our Qiuyue pear and other fruit categories are sold to all parts of the country through the Shanghai Fruit and Vegetable Market and the Jiaxing Fruit Wholesale Market. In the future, when the time is right, we hope to achieve exports, so that overseas consumers can also taste our Qiuyue pears."
