Shelf life of asparagus, increased from one to five weeks

“The best solution to increase the shelf life of fruit and vegetables,” this is what the bag from Peakfresh promises. The Australian fresh bag could be admired close-up at the expoSE in Karlsruhe. “Our fresh bags are a sustainable product,” states Christian Konrad, managing director of Konrad & Schmidt, the distributor of Peak Fresh for the EU and neighboring countries.

Peakfresh uses a Modified Atmosphere Packaging-Film" (MAP-Film) especially developed for the packaging of fruit and vegetables. “The atmospheric conditions in the bag can be changed so that longer freshness and a consistent quality is achieved," continues Konrad.

According to Konrad the shelf life of asparagus has increased from one week to five. “Users of the fresh bag can reduce their waste because the fruit and vegetables remain fresh for longer,” tells the managing director. “The longer shelf life spreads the harvest peaks and the drop in sales is evened out. It also increases the transport and sales radius of our customers. And furthermore losses in the supply chain are reduced.”

Peakfresh is available in several sizes, for a box to an entire pallet, and suitable for the whole spectrum of fruit and vegetable packaging. Furthermore Peakfresh can be used as display packaging in stores, for instance as re-sealable bags for herbs, bags for salads or in Flow-Wrap packaging lines.
