Polish Bicolored apples might access China by end of year

This year is the second year that Bicolored apples from Poland have been promoted in China. It is expected that the apples might gain access to China by the end of the year. Beijing, Shanghai and Chengdu are the first cities to be targeted by Polish export.

The 'Bicolored apple' is an apple variety with red and yellow colours. Poland is one of the biggest apple producers and exporters in the world. In 2013, total production volume reached 3.2 million tons and exports amounted to 1.2 million tons. It is expected that on gaining access to the Chinese market, Poland will export thousands of tons of apples yearly.

First promotion efforts started in 2014. Last August, Poland handed an official request to the Chinese government to export apples to China. During the waiting period, Poland has invested a lot into promoting its apples in China.

In terms of price, it is hard to predict the market situation in China. Average labour costs are about 30% lower in Poland than in other European countries. Therefore the Bicolored apples can have a competitive price on the Chinese market. Bicolored apples sell in Russia for around 0.32 USD per kilogram, according to Hexun News.
