Jumbo open Holland's biggest supermarket

The largest supermarket in the Netherlands was opened last Wednesday morning. Jumbo Foodmarkt occupies an area of 6,000 m2 and is six times the size of a standard supermarket. Frits van Eerd, general director of Jumbo, called 27th of March 2013 a day never to be forgotten. "This is a dream becoming reality. We have worked for two years to realise this new concept. A shop, which is different from traditional shops, satisfying the needs of the consumer, today and in the future. Consumers change and eating habits change. The most important challenge in his view, is that the lowest price is guaranteed.

Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, director Marketing and Formula, mentions that it is not easy to organize a large supermarket. "We went abroad for inspiration. We wanted a pleasant, well-organized, but also a sturdy shop, without losing the Jumbo identity. Jumbo Foodmarkt combines hotel and restaurant with shopping. We are very proud of the result and do not exclude opening up the concept in other municipalities."

Shopping at Jumbo Foodmarkt is an experience. "Whilst shopping, one can gain inspiration from chefs and professionals, who (there and then) prepare and allow you to taste the nicest dishes. From handmade sushi and crunchy Italian pizza to Dutch regional dishes. Asian curry dishes and soups from traditionally prepared stock. And everything at unbelievably low prices," says Colette.
