Germany: Edeka to start logistical platform in Switzerland

After a year of careful preparation German retailer Edeka C+C is ready to open up a new logistics centre in Switzerland, allowing the company to supply hotels and restaurants in the region. It is expected the delivery area will soon be expanded with further districts.

In a press release, Edeka states that several talks with representatives from the hospitality sector have indicated that deliveries by a Swiss company is the best possible option for all involved. Therefore the German retailer will work together with the newly established 'Gastro Service Union Schweiz GmbH', headquartered in Allschwil.

The joined venture will be supplying bars, restaurants, hotels, hospitals, catering companies and homes. In the near future, a network of regional partners will guarantee the national availability of Edeka’s assortment. At the moment, the assortment is mostly made up of Edeka’s own brands, such as 'Topkauf' and 'Maître'.
