The National Security and National Guard units have carried out a large-scale simultaneous control operation across wholesale markets in Tunisia.
The intervention targeted actors involved in the supply, pricing, sales, and distribution of fruit, vegetables, and other consumer products. Authorities said the objective was to curb speculation, illicit storage, and artificial price increases.
Beyond law enforcement, the authorities described the actions as a way to raise awareness. They stressed the need for solidarity and collective responsibility to contain price increases and ensure equitable access to basic food products.
"Tunisia needs a new collective impetus. The state will play its role in defending the purchasing power of consumers, while taking into account the difficulties experienced by farmers," the Ministry of the Interior stated.
According to the ministry, initial feedback indicated that both market players and citizens welcomed the inspections. Officials said work will continue to establish a more balanced organization of distribution for essential goods, aiming to avoid shortages and protect vulnerable groups.
