Kees Jansen, Teelt-en verpakkingsbedrijf Gebroeders Jansen:

"After a dip at Easter, the price of leeks has only increased"

The leek supply currently consists exclusively of leeks from the cold storage. "Many growers have finished the winter cultivation, and only a limited group delivers year-round from the cold storage. We will continue to supply from the cold storage for another four to five weeks before we switch to the new harvest," says Kees Jansen of cultivation and packing company Gebroeders Jansen from Etten-Leur.

"Currently, we cannot complain about the sales. Many countries have finished their own cultivation, and the export is going very well. There is no country that really stands out, but almost all countries are participating, from Eastern Europe to Germany, Italy, and Spain," Kees explains. "We experienced a price dip around Easter, but since then, the market has only gone up. Currently, the prices are around 1.30 euros."

"With the wetness, it has been a very tough year, again now with the planting. The higher spots eventually run out, and you also have to move to the lower-lying plots, but everyone is waiting for good weather. The conditions have been very challenging, but fortunately, it has been a good year in terms of prices. Therefore, I expect the acreage to remain the same next year, or perhaps even increase a bit."
