Hamish McIntyre elected new NFF president

Queensland farmer Hamish McIntyre has been elected president of the National Farmers' Federation (NFF), succeeding outgoing president and Victorian farmer David "DJ" Jochinke. McIntyre becomes the organisation's 15th president, following his election by NFF members.

McIntyre operates a family-owned farming business spanning irrigated and dryland cropping, cattle breeding, beef feedlotting, and broiler chicken production across the St George, Dirranbandi, Quilpie, and Beaudesert regions in Queensland. He joined the NFF board as a director in October 2023 and has previously served as chair of Cotton Australia and as a director of the Australian Wagyu Association and Agsafe.

"I am honoured to be elected as the NFF President. I look forward to working with our members to advance Australian agriculture. My priority will be making sure farmers are front and centre in policy discussions in Canberra," McIntyre said.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Jochinke, who has served on the NFF board for a maximum of 12 years, including two years as president and six as vice president. Jochinke was the first president of the Victorian Farmers' Federation to also hold the NFF presidency.

McIntyre said Jochinke's tenure focused on advocacy and policy reform, including his role in opposing the Biosecurity Protection Levy and Super Tax. He also highlighted Jochinke's focus on farmer wellbeing and mental health, which led to the formation of a national mental health coalition with more than 50 partner organisations across the agriculture, health, and rural sectors.

Jochinke will continue to serve as president until the conclusion of the 44th NFF Members' Council meeting on October 24, 2025. The NFF confirmed that two new board directors will be elected later today, with results expected to be announced at 5:30 p.m. AEDT.
