Uzbekistan is set to expand state support for potato cultivation following the signing of the Presidential Decree on September 8, 2025, titled "On additional measures to increase potato production and Develop Seed Growing."
The decree sets clear targets for the sector: by 2028, the country aims to supply at least 10 million mini-potato tubers annually with a germination rate of at least 85%, and by 2030, to increase average yields from the current 16–17 tonnes per hectare to 25–30 tonnes per hectare.
The Ministry of Agriculture is tasked with placing annual orders by December 1 with scientific institutions and private growers for in vitro-grown plants, as well as micro- and mini-tubers for the next season.
The State Agricultural Support Fund will provide loans through commercial banks to cover up to 50% of the costs associated with potato cultivation from January 1, 2026. Loans will have a 12-month term at 12% interest, including a six-month grace period, and will require mandatory crop insurance.
Additionally, potato farmers can receive compensation from the state budget for up to 50% of expenses on installing solar panels, capped at 50 million Uzbek sums starting in 2026.
