On September 2, CBP officers encountered a tractor-trailer carrying a shipment of broccoli attempting to enter the U.S. from Mexico. The vehicle was referred for further inspection, which included the use of non-intrusive inspection equipment and a canine team. A physical examination led to the discovery of 488 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the roof of the trailer. The narcotics weighed 1,480 pounds (671.5 kg).

"This massive load of narcotics will not reach American streets thanks to the tireless inspection work undertaken by our CBP officers on the front lines," said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo Port of Entry.

CBP officers seized both the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations has initiated a criminal investigation.
