Kazakhstan is strengthening its stabilization funds to guarantee affordable prices for key vegetables in the 2025–2026 season. Larger volumes of potatoes, onions, carrots, and cabbage from the new harvest will be contracted to avoid supply gaps and sudden price spikes.
Official data show that as of August 22, farmers harvested 512,900 tonnes of potatoes, 317,900 tonnes of cabbage, 226,800 tonnes of onions, and 98,800 tonnes of carrots. Prices for these staples have already declined in recent weeks, with potatoes down by 5.7%, onions by 9%, carrots by 4.1%, and cabbage by 2.2%.
Not all regions, however, have completed contracting vegetables for stabilization reserves. To improve transparency, the government is considering digital tools such as video monitoring and scanning systems in storage facilities. These measures would allow real-time tracking of stock inflows and outflows, ensuring that supplies reach consumers at stable, affordable prices throughout autumn, winter, and spring.
