In 2024, the EU harvested 62.2 million tons of fresh vegetables (including melons), a 6% increase from the 58.8 million tons harvested in 2023.
Spain (14.8 million tons), Italy (13.9 million tons), and France (5.8 million tons) were the EU's top producers of fresh vegetables, together accounting for 55% of the total harvest. Production of several key vegetables increased compared with 2023. Tomato output rose 5% to 16.8 million tons, carrot production was up 6% at 4.7 million tons, and onion harvests climbed 11% to 7.0 million tons.
Italy was the largest tomato producer, accounting for 36% of the EU's total tomato harvest, followed by Spain (27%) and Portugal (10%). Germany (18%), France (14%), and Poland (12%) led in carrot production. The Netherlands was the EU's leading onion producer in 2024, providing 26% of total harvested onions, followed by Spain (20%) and Germany (12%).

Fruit, berries, and nuts
In 2024, the EU produced 24.3 million tons of fruits, berries, and nuts (excluding citrus, grapes, and strawberries), which was 2% less than in 2023. Italy (5.4 million tons), Spain (4.3 million tons), and Poland (4.1 million tons) were the main producers, together making up 57% of the EU's total.
Apple production reached 11.6 million tons, down 4% from 2023. Poland accounted for 29% of this volume, followed by Italy (21%) and France (17%). Pear harvests totaled 1.9 million tons, up 2% from 2023. Italy produced 24% of the EU's total pears, the Netherlands 17%, and Belgium 15%. Peach production reached similar levels to 2023, with Spain (37%), Italy (33%), and Greece (21%) accounting for 91% of the EU total. Overall, EU peach production rose by 2% compared with the previous year.
