Movements of key fruits and vegetables across the U.S. continue with varying trading activity and price trends. Below is a summary of current conditions for asparagus, avocados, blueberries, cucumbers, and tomatoes.
Asparagus
Movement from Mexico via Arizona, California, and Texas is steady. Trading started slowly and ended fairly slowly with higher prices. Large bunched 11-lb cartons are mostly priced between $20.75–$22.75, and standard cartons between $16.75–$18.75. Peru imports through Southern California show moderate trading, with slightly higher prices for large sizes. Jumbo is at $36.00, extra-large $36.75–$38.00, large $22.00–$24.00, standard mostly $20.00–$22.00, and small mostly $12.00–$14.00.

Avocados
Mexican avocado movement through Texas remains steady. Trading is fairly slow for 32-40s, moderate for 48-60s, and fairly active for others. Prices are mostly lower, with 40s and 70-84s unchanged. Hass 32s are $48.25–$50.25, 36s $47.25–$49.25, 40s mostly $44.25–$46.25, 48s and 60s mostly $39.25–$41.25, 70s mostly $36.25–$38.25, and 84s mostly $26.25–$28.25. Organic 48s are $68.25–$70.25. Peruvian imports via the Northeast show moderate trading, with 60s slightly higher at $32.00–$34.00. California movement is steady, with lower prices for 32-48s, higher for 70s. Hass 48s are mostly $52.25–$54.25 and organic 48s at $80.25–$82.25.
Blueberries
Movement from Oregon and Washington is steady with moderate trading and lower prices. Flats of 12/6-oz cups are mostly $10.00–$12.00, and 12 1-pint flats are $14.00–$16.00. Organic equivalents range from $14.00–$26.00. Canadian product through Northwest Washington is increasing seasonally, with medium-large 12 1-pint flats mostly $12.00–$14.00. Peru shipments are increasing, while Chile's season is ending.
Cucumbers
Movement from Mexico via Otay Mesa and Texas is increasing. Trading is slow to fairly active, with prices mostly lower. 1 1/9-bushel cartons of medium sizes are $10.00–$12.00 in Otay Mesa and $14.95–$15.95 in Texas. Large sizes in Texas reach $17.95–$18.95. Michigan movement is ramping up with slow trading; medium-sized cartons are mostly $12.00, fair quality at $6.00–$7.00.
Tomatoes
California's Central District tomato movement is stable with active trading and much higher prices. Loose 25-lb cartons of Mature Greens (extra-large to medium) are priced at $12.35. Mexican vine ripe tomatoes through Texas are seeing slightly higher prices for 2-layer cartons of 4x4-4x5s at $14.95–$15.95, while loose 5x6s are mostly $11.95–$12.95. Otay Mesa movement is stable, but prices are much lower, with 2-layer 4x4-4x5s mostly $12.00–$14.00. Alabama maintains steady movement, with 25-lb loose 5x6 and 6x6s at $16.00 and vine ripe equivalents at $15.00.
