Petrolina grape producers plan 2025 strategy

The Rural Producers Union of Petrolina (SPR) convened on a strategic initiative for upcoming table grape commercialization for late 2025. At a breakfast meeting, producers and market representatives from São Francisco Valley discussed production volume, grape quality, and market distribution.

Jailson Lira, SPR president, stressed aligning producer strategies for an integrated marketing plan, incorporating buyer negotiations and storage logistics. Lira noted, "The narrowing of negotiation margins and the high costs of labor, inputs, and fees are obstacles. By seeking joint solutions, we will be able to negotiate our production on better terms."

Participants received insights from CEPEA/ESALQ's Isabela Ferraz, offering a global perspective on grape production. Addressing Brazil's position against nations like Peru, Chile, and South Africa, Ferraz spoke on the domestic uptick in seedless grape production. She remarked, "The São Francisco Valley has the potential to lead the premium grape market, focusing on specialty and sweet varieties with direct refrigerated logistics."

Lira assessed the gathering as vital for aligning strategies going forward. He mentioned, "From now on, we will be promoting these meetings so that grape producers can adequately prepare for decision-making on marketing, both for the domestic market and exports."
