Typhoon Danas has generated over US$34.4 million in damages to Taiwan's agricultural sector, based on the Ministry of Agriculture's latest assessment. Agricultural product losses reached US$23.9 million, affecting crops across 9,067 hectares, with 30% of the crop area impacted. Notably, 2,750 hectares were deemed total crop losses.
Key crop casualties included bananas, pomelos, bamboo shoots, oranges, and ponkans. Bananas faced losses of US$4.5 million, affecting 1,098 hectares and a 35% damage rate. Pomelos incurred US$4.2 million in damages, bamboo shoots US$2.8 million, oranges US$2.1 million, and ponkans US$1.9 million.
Chiayi County experienced the highest losses, totaling US$16.4 million, accounting for 48% of the national agricultural damage. Tainan followed with US$8.9 million (26%), Yunlin County at US$8.4 million (24%), and Pingtung County at US$0.4 million (1%).
Private agricultural facilities suffered damages of US$4 million, including US$1.1 million in infrastructure loss, impacting horizontal trellis screen houses and plastic-covered greenhouses.
