Takeo province bans Vietnamese durian imports

Vei Samnang, Governor of Takeo province, has instructed border officers at the Takeo-Kien Giang gate to block durian imports into Cambodia. Speaking at a Takeo Provincial Council meeting, he noted that Vietnam's durians contain chemicals harmful to consumers. He stated, "This situation has led to a large surplus of durians, especially as the price of durians has fallen, and there may be illegal imports into the Cambodian market."

Samnang mandated, "I have strictly ordered the international, bilateral, and regional border gates to prevent durian from entering the Cambodian market through the Takeo border gates." He reported no illegal durian imports through Takeo province to date.
