The Malaysian Army's 1st Division intercepted a smuggling operation, seizing 12,300 kg of Holland onions intended for Indonesia. The operation, known as Ops Awas/Keris Parang, took place in Bau, near Kuching, resulting in the arrest of two local men.
During a patrol in an oil palm plantation near the Indonesian border, army personnel discovered two lorries loaded with onions. The estimated value of the onions is RM35,000. Additionally, the lorries, valued at RM181,500, were confiscated. The suspects, along with the seized onions and vehicles, were handed over to the Bau police station for further proceedings.
