Improving product quality is essential for Vietnam's exports to China

Vietnam's exports to China could see growth with an emphasis on improving product quality by domestic enterprises. In 2023, Vietnam's durian exports reached approximately 2.2 billion USD, with China accounting for 2.1 billion USD of this total. The country has successfully exported 12 groups of goods to China, each exceeding 1 billion USD in value, including phones and components, and computers, electronic products, and components. These exports significantly contributed to Vietnam's 62 billion USD turnover to China, part of the nearly 172 billion USD bilateral trade. The first quarter saw a 5.2% increase in Vietnam's exports to China, totaling 12.68 billion USD, against a 24.4% increase in imports from China. The bilateral trade agreements, such as the ACFTA and RCEP, alongside negotiations for joining the CPTPP, are expected to further facilitate trade between Vietnam and China.

China's demand for imports continues to rise, yet the market's standards have become more stringent. The Doveco company highlighted the necessity for Vietnamese exports to comply with food safety regulations, citing instances of durian shipments exceeding safe cadmium levels. The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is taking steps to ensure exports meet the regulatory requirements of China and other markets.
