Marc de Bruijn, Green Goose Exotics:

"Prime market for limes due to spring weather and low volumes from Brazil"

In 2017, Green Goose was founded by Christiaan van der Goes, specializing in supplying the European market with sweet potatoes. In December 2023, Green Goose Exotics was established by Christiaan, in collaboration with Marc de Bruijn. "The goal is to achieve something similar with exotic fruits, particularly focusing on the import of limes in a few fixed premium brands, such as Nico and Tropicom."

"By combining many years of experience in the field of import and sales, as well as setting up a solid healthy company, we were able to get off to a fast, smooth, and good start. The support from our long-term customers and suppliers has greatly helped in this regard, and we are very pleased with that," says Marc. Green Goose Exotics imports limes all year round from Brazil, particularly from the state of Bahia. "After all, that's where the best limes come from. We also import limes from Sao Paulo, especially when the weather in Europe improves and demand increases, and the European market can also accommodate these types of limes."

"In February, the market was a bit more challenging due to lower demand, and in March, the market fluctuated somewhat, but thanks to the spring weather, we have now entered a great market just before Easter. Volumes are at a low level due to the new export restrictions in Brazil and the extreme weather with a lot of rain in the preceding weeks. The market is very good at the moment, which is something you see around this period every year. Prices are currently between 8 and 10 euros a box of 4.5 kg limes, and that should remain the case in the coming weeks," Marc predicts.

"Next month, we will be traveling to Brazil to visit our suppliers during the first Fruit Attraction in Sao Paulo and to further prepare for the future, which we are very confident and excited about."
