Importer introduces Peruvian Kent mango and Tasmanian cherries

Melissa's is shipping two unique items this season, the first being the air-flown, tree-ripened Kent Mangos from Peru, now available through March.

"This crème de la crème variety of mango arrives ripe and ready to eat with creamy orange flesh, balanced sweetness and a hint of citrus," says director of public relations, Robert Schueller. “Ripe mangos outsell unripe by 21 percent. To protect the mango, each is wrapped in a distinctive black sock that elevates it from the bulk bin to an eye-catching impulse buy. This premium presentation translates to higher margins and increased sales for our retail partners.”

Even when global markets face challenges, Melissa’s industry relationships ensure a consistent supply of top-quality mangos. The company experienced great success with its tree-ripened Edwards mango program and aims to replicate that success and continue to help retail partners drive sales and customer satisfaction with ripe, flavorful mangos.

The company is also bringing in Tasmanian cherries hailing from a 150-year-old family farm in Tasmania, Australia.

The cherries are bigger than a Bing with deep burgundy, almost black skin and are juicy and sweet. Melissa’s is bringing them in through mid-February.

“These beauties are handpicked at the peak of ripeness, then air-flown to the U.S. within 48 hours. That means you get the freshest, most vibrant cherries imaginable," says Schueller. "They're truly the pinnacle of cherry perfection and always a hit."

The cherries are offered in a premium 11-pound box that can be portioned into bags or cups, or new this year, a limited edition 2.2 lb gold gift box.
