Aníbal Caminiti, manager of the Argentine Chamber of Integrated Cherry Producers (CAPCI), stated in an interview with +P that it was a very positive year as the product had a very high quality, recognized in the market. Neuquén plays a significant role in Argentine cherry exports, accounting for 22% of the country's cherry exports. Seasonal sales will generate more than $4 million in foreign currency.
According to Caminiti, Argentina has already exported 5,100 tons of cherries to date so exports could reach 6,000 tons. Late exports are also very important. The cherry that is shipped in March reaches the Chinese market in April when the supply decreases significantly with the participation of local greenhouse production. But the volume peaks have already passed," the executive clarified.
He also said, there were two periods of low supply during the season (in October and November, as well as in March and April) where demand is high, which allows exporters in the Rio Negro Valley and Neuquen region to be profitable.
