Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile:

“2024 the year to position Frutas de Chile brand, continue improving and opening new markets”

This new year of 2024 will see Chile consolidate its country brand as a supplier of fresh produce to markets around the world. This will be achieved through the Frutas de Chile brand that makes his country stand out says Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, “2024 will be an important year to position our Frutas de Chile brand, and continue to make progress in improving and opening new markets for our fruits.”

Chile is one of the few countries to have all its fruits approved for entry into China. The country is also progressing well with negotiations and market entry for their other fruits in most Asian markets. This includes Indonesia where they are making progress with the entry of their citrus (fresh lemons), while in Vietnam fresh kiwis and in South Korea for fresh plums followed by Japan for fresh apples.

The key says Marambio is the close working relationship between Frutas de Chile to participate in the visits and meetings of the Chilean Government with the authorities of these countries, which shows the strong public-private partnership.

Climatic challenges will be overcome
“We have challenges related to climate and drought, but as a country we will advance towards planning and implementing the infrastructure we need, as well as improving our logistics and ports with a long-term view that accompanies the growth of our exports,” states Marambio.

Where they already have access Frutas de Chile works to increase or improve that access to facilitate faster trade. In the key US market they are hoping to see a systems approach for table grapes from certain regions in Chile finalised this year. “We also hope to have the U.S. publication of the Systems Approach to avoid fumigation of our table grapes from the regions of Atacama, Coquimbo and part of Valparaíso, improving the competitiveness of our grapes in the U.S. market,” concludes Marambio.
