China: Veg prices fall as temperatures rise.

If previous experience is anything to go by, as supply increases in late May and early June, prices should fall. Warm weather and excellent growing conditions have led to big volumes which have outstripped demand. Meanwhile the hot weather means storage is difficult and cheap open field veg are replacing expensive, greenhouse grown varieties.

Vegetables

Although vegetable prices of other areas fell, Lanling county saw a rise in prices. This is mainly because the vegetables of the new production season, such as melons, have just entered the market. Vegetables like eggplants and tomatoes are low in volume but high in quality and there's been heavy competition among the merchants for produce, which has seen retail prices rise.
