ZON made a profit of 0.8 million in 2017

Over the year 2017, Royal ZON achieved a positive financial result. After taxes, the profit of 0.8 million euro is level with 2016. ZON’s total turnover amounted to 286 million euro in 2017 (295 million in 2016).

Sales strategy
Due to its dual sales strategy, ZON manages to market the growers’ products appropriately, thus achieving good price results. Looking at realised prices of products across the line, we can see these are better compared to other sales channels, just as in 2016.

Besides account management, which means growers are coupled directly to selected customers, the auction also plays a prominent part in the company’s sales policy. In 2017, ZON continued expanding this commercial strategy, by means of marketing and communication platform VanEigenBodem.nl, which was successfully launched.

The increasing cooperation with Spanish growers is important to continue boosting the position of the most important Dutch auction for vegetables. Because of this, ZON can offer its customers an appealing product supply year-round. With this activity, started in 2015, ZON managed to increase sales of import product in 2016 and 2017, and the number of customers also continued increasing.

For Fresh Park Venlo, 2017 was a good year as well. The acquisition of new companies at the Fresh Park, and the subsequent occupancy of practically 100 per cent is also expected to be realised in 2018. In 2017, two large new construction projects were started, for Staay - Van Rijn and for Scelta. Both projects will soon be finished.

ZON’s management and direction are satisfied with the developments of the past year. “ZON is convinced we can serve more growers due to our current dual sales strategy,” said General Manager Michiel F. van Ginkel. To this end, more initiatives will be taken in 2018 to make ZON into a distinctive sales organisation, for example, by extending the cooperation with A-brand manufacturers.
