Occupational Employment Statistics survey

Interesting picture of the U.S. economy

Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Employment Statistics survey was compiled into a simple list of iconic jobs per state. The analysis uses something called the 'location quotient' to capture how common something is in a given location.

For example, petroleum engineers are relatively hard to find across the county, but you can find more than 50% of them in Texas. These so-called 'iconic' jobs were mapped by colour-coding their popularity in each state, with the average salary added as a reference.
