Chile sends the first W. Murcott to the East Coast of the United States

According to information from the ASOEX Citrus Committee, Chile has sent its first shipment of Chilean W. Murcott mandarins of the 2017 season. The shipment consisting of 1,352 boxes (22 tons) departed the country on week 25 from Valparaiso to the East Coast of the United States.

According to the Committee, the weather has been favorable for the production of mandarins this campaign, allowing the fruit to have good internal and external quality, as well as average calibers greater than in 2016, corresponding mostly to sizes 3 and 4.

It should be noted that Chile expects to export about 67, thousand tons of mandarins in the 2017 season, i.e. 26% more than in 2016. This growth would be due in large part to the increase of the cultivated area of this fruit and the consequent entrance of production from new orchards.
