Brexit could have 0.4% impact on Spanish GDP

According to Antonio Hernández, responsible for energy and international strategy at KPMG, the Brexit could have an impact on the Spanish economy of around 0.4% of the GDP.

The UK is the fourth destination of all Spanish exports, which in 2015, accounted for about €18 billion, 7% of the total. It is also the third largest investor country in Spain, with about €38 billion per year, and the second destination of Spanish investments, with about €62 billion per year.

In addition, it is the main source of tourists to Spain, with 23% of all foreign visitors.

However, the expert also noted that the Brexit can mean opportunities because it will lead to tax changes and will cheapen Spanish investments.

In his opinion, the key to Spanish companies will be “anticipation”, so he recommended not to wait for the negotiations to be concluded in order to take actions and to adapt to the new situation from the start.
