The cauliflower harvest is declining slowly but steadily. Some volumes are still in the fields, and according to Belgian cultivator Jos Stevens, domestic production could possibly be sufficient until mid-December. “We could be self-sufficient until then if it does not freeze too much. If the weather stays as it is now, we can continue harvesting.”
Low and high prices
Stevens indicates that production was very high in September because of the warm weather. “Then much happened all at the same time, and supply was much higher than demand. Cauliflowers were quite cheap then as well. Volumes are currently not spectacular, production is, fortunately, much more gradual now. Prices have been at a high level for just over a month now. They fluctuate between 1 and 1.50 euro. They were at 90 cents for a short while, but usually they are over one euro.”
