Russian-Japanese joint venture company JGC Evergreen, exported its first batch of vegetables grown in the suburbs of the Khabarovsk region (also known as the China-Russia cross border area), to Russia earlier this year, and they plan to further expand their vegetable export to Japan and China.
Mr. Ivan Grubanov, the person responsible for the analysis group of the Russian Agriculture Committee, explained - "In Russia, the average usage of chemical fertiliser per hectare is around 30-40 kilos, while in China it is around twice as much. Therefore, it is not surprising that Russian vegetables are considered more green and healthy in China." However, he is doubtful that Russian vegetables can be successfully exported to China because the long distances that must be covered remain a major obstacle and will impact both the quality and the price.
