Increased container handling first half of 2015, 1.8 million TEU

Every year, the English trade journal 'Container Management' publishes a ranking of the largest container ports in the world under the title “WORLD TOP CONTAINER PORTS”. In the current edition, the Duisburg port comes in at 41st place with 3.4 million TEU (2014). With this, Duisport is ahead of European ports such as Le Havre (2.6 million TEU), Barcelona (1.9 million TEU) and Marseille (1.2 million TEU), as well as US-American ports such as Houston (2.0 million TEU) and Miami (0.9 million TEU).

“As the only inland port in the TOP 100 container ports, Duisport highlights its position as the world's largest container hub in the hinterland,” stresses Erich Staake, CEO of the Duisburger Hafen AG.

Further measures, such as the hub concept for customers from the logistics and loading industry, built from Duisport, further strengthen the attractiveness of the location. This positive development is significantly based on the successful investments of the past years, the connected settlements of international customers as well as expansion of the handling capacity in Duisburg port. Meanwhile, Duisburg port has a capacity altogether of 5 million TEU.

For this year, Duisport is counting on a container handling growth of six to seven percent.
