Peru: Blueberry export value up 53.7%

According to the specialized portal AgrodataPerú, Peruvian exports of fresh blueberries amounted to $7,368,081 dollars during the first quarter of 2015, i.e. 53.7% more than the US $4,792,960 recorded in the same period last year.

The website also stated that the export volume had increased by 43.9%, from 658,530 kilos in the first three months of 2014 to 947,612 kilos in the first quarter of this year.

The main market destination for Peruvian blueberries in the period studied was the US, which made purchases for $4.9 million dollars, i.e. 66.5% of total sales. Other important destinations were the Netherlands, with US $1.3 million (18% of total sales); the UK, which accounted for 14% of sales, Hong Kong, with 1%, and Costa Rica, with another 1%.

The Peruvian companies that exported the most blueberries during the first quarter of 2015 are: Camposol, which had shipments that totalled $4.4 million dollars (60% of the total), followed by TALSA, with $2.4 million (33%), Hortifrut-TALSAC (7%), Danper Trujillo (0.7%), and INTIPA Foods (0.1%), among others.

In 2014, shipments of fresh blueberries from Peru amounted to $29,278,319 dollars, as the country exported 2,777,959 kilos of this fruit.
