New, stricter U.S. sanitary regulations for Mexican avocados

Despite being the world's leading avocado producer and exporter, in Mexico only 86,000 out of its 150,000 hectares of plantations are certified, although by 2015 the entire acreage will be required to have this protection.

Given the changes introduced by the New Food Safety Modernization Act in the United States, to be implemented from January 2015, producer-exporters of Mexican foods will have to take the necessary precautions and join international health and safety entities in order to prevent their products from being rejected at the borders of the destination countries.

Increased international trade
The avocado industry is going through a critical time in Mexico, as a result of the fact that the fruit's international trade has increased from 173,000 tonnes in 2006 to 608,000 in 2013, with a value of more than 18,000 million pesos (1.57 billion Euro).
