AGAP

Peruvian exports of fruit and vegetables to Asia between January and May grew by 95.6%

The Association of Peruvian Agricultural Producers Guilds (AGAP) reported that, in the first five months of the year, Peruvian horticultural exports to Asia grew by 95.6%.

"Since this increase represented incomes for $154 million dollars, Asia has become the market with the highest growth forecast for Peruvian horticultural exports," said AGAP, through a press release.

According to AGAP, the Asian countries with the greatest demand for fresh Peruvian agricultural products are China, with a share of 28.76%; Hong Kong, with 27.91%, and Thailand, with 14.65%.

The most demanded products were the fresh grapes, especially of the Red Globe and seedless varieties, as they had a 101% growth between January and March this year when compared to the first quarter of last year.

"This continent bodes well for Peru. In the first five months of 2014 Peruvian fruit exports to China have increased by 103%, to Hong Kong 132%, to Thailand 37%, to Taiwan 100%, to Indonesia 107% and to Malaysia 170%," stated AGAP.

According to AGAP, shipments to Asia have enabled exports of fresh fruits and vegetables in general to maintain their upward trend with a record rate of 33.4% in May alone.
