Peru: Blueberry exports amount to 4.5 million dollars this year
Peruvian exports of blueberries in the first quarter amounted to $4.5 million dollars, said Alfonso Velasquez Tuesta, president of Sierra Exportadora, during the virtual launch of the National Berry Directory.
He stressed that this was a record considering that the cultivation of these fruits had only started six years ago in Peru.
"These results confirm the expectations placed on this crop to become a boom." He projected that the blueberries success in the international market would continue, and that exports would amount to 35 million dollars by the end of the year.
Regarding the National Berry Directory, Velasquez Tuesta said that its aim was to articulate the contact between the members of the supply chain of the berry business (including blueberries, cape gooseberries and strawberries) and to become a management tool for their activity.
The National Berry Directory contains a list of plant, seed, inputs and services suppliers, as well as researchers, specialists and marketers.
