Up to February, Costa Rican exports fell by 3.65%

According to a statement by the Promoter of Foreign Trade (Procomer), exports in January and February 2014 amounted to $1,790 million dollars, 3.65% less than the $1,858 million dollars exported in the same period last year.

"This contraction is due to a combination of factors, which includes the recovery of the economies to which Costa Rica exports a large proportion of their products; something which didn't happen in the first two months of the year," said Procomer.

According to the Promoter, other factors that influence the decrease of exports are the drop in the supply of agricultural products, due to pests, and the buyers of Costa Rican products' accumulation of inventory.

North America, primarily the United States, is Costa Rica's largest export market, with a 41% share, followed by the EU with 18%, Asia with 13.2%, Central America with 14.4%, and the Caribbean 4.1%, among others.
