Germany: Success for Dutch vegetable sector at Grüne Woche 2013

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Agriculture Minister Sharon Dijksma, nearly 500,000 German consumers, many TV and radio teams, politicians and interest groups attended the International ‘Green Week’ in Berlin this week. There was considerable interest for the Dutch fruit pavilion with more than 63 kinds of tomatoes and other delicious items, including peppers, cucumbers and aubergines. As part of the "Qualität wächst in Holland” program the stand received even more media attention. Under the direction of the Fresh Produce Agency, several large marketing organizations for greenhouse vegetables joined forces to set up an impressive campaign on the German Grüne Woche fair.

FrEsteem and Tasty Tom contributed financially to the promotion of Dutch fruit crops in Germany. During the MyTomato campaign, German consumers will be informed extensively about the diversity of Dutch tomatoes. The campaign "Sicher ist lecker" tells visitors about today’s food safety in horticulture.

"It's all about getting maximum attention of the press and visitors. We really went above and beyond the usual promotional activities to achieve this,” says Jochem Wolthuis, international director of GroentenFruit Bureau. "For the reception of the German and Dutch Ministers of Agriculture Ilse Aigner and Sharon Dijksma we prepared a beautiful Tomato Cocktail, receiving much media attention.”

The International Green Week takes place every year in Berlin, usually in January. This traditional event is been held annually for 87 years now. A unique international event in the food industry, agriculture and horticulture. Farmers and producers from around the world use the International Green Week as a sales and market testing ground, but also for image building. This year the event was attended by over 80 agriculture ministers from various countries. Products such as fruits and vegetables, fish, meat and dairy play an important role in the many presentations. The almost complete beer, wine, and liquor selection combined with international culinary specialities leave no wish unfulfilled.
