TopControl CEO Michael Saltuari (Italy)

"Our solutions for reducing costs and improving efficiency"

"Our customers have been asking us for tools to optimise their processes and save resources so that they can streamline their operations," says Michael Saltuari, CEO of TopControl, a South Tyrolean company specializing in hardware and software for weighing, packaging and storage processes.

The IWS 2000, one of the most recent innovations.

"We are an all-round automation and solutions partner for the food industry, especially the fruit and vegetable industry. Our aim is to make production and packaging processes more productive and efficient. Our market is 65% overseas. We started out more than 30 years ago serving well-known companies in Trentino-South Tyrol, and now we are present on every continent. For example, we recently installed 300 weighing stations in combination with the new foodProcess software in Namibia."

Some of the most successful recent technologies sold all over the world include the MHP 3000 semi-automatic combiner, suitable for delicate and difficult-to-handle produce such as table grapes and tomatoes. Or the GLMBS labelling machine, which applies two labels to each basket, one at the top and one at the bottom, at speeds of up to 300 baskets per minute.

MHP 3000 semi-automatic combination scale.

"With the MHP 3000 combination scale," says Saltuari, "it is possible to semi-automatically fill small packages of cherry tomatoes and table grapes that have already been partially composted or are even empty, with a minimum of waste. The 24 weighing belts are used to automatically optimize the weight of the packs and are loaded manually by an operator. The machine computes the optimum combination to fill the pack to the desired weight with minimal waste and enormous time saving."

Improving storage yields by 20 percent, for example, can be a game changer for a company. "That's what we've been able to do in some cases," says Saltuari, "with table grapes. By making work easier and smoother, you can save money and increase labor productivity. This is certainly an advantage, and given how difficult it is to find labor today, it is certainly an advantage to be more efficient."

"Simplifying problems and providing support", concludes the CEO. "This is the daily mission of TopControl."
