Purpose of the position

With 6 sales offices, 3 value- add operations and continued expansion across Europe, Halls are looking to strengthen the Technical/Quality function to ensure that the Halls Quality Policy is maintained with respect to Halls brand values, food safety, legality and customer specifications.

The role requires a dynamic and forward-thinking individual with a desire and commitment to ensuring the highest of standards throughout the Halls business and an appetite to ensure the company swiftly adapts to our constantly evolving needs.  As a team player the successful candidate will enjoy the benefits of working with a passionate and experienced group of professionals to maintain Halls position as a receiver and supplier of choice to our global supply partners and European customers.

This is a senior position involving internal liaison across the Halls operations including the Northern Europe (NE) Commercial team, our Technical Compliance Manager, the Southern Europe (SE) Quality Team, our customers and worldwide supply partners where appropriate

The position is based in our open and friendly offices in Maasdijk.

Areas of responsibility

  • Maintenance of the certified Quality Management System and QA procedures
  • Overseeing the assessment of arrival quality –internal/external deviation reporting to ensure compliance to product standards
  • Manage pesticide sampling plan, co-ordinate laboratory analyses, manage the results
  • Management of food safety breaches according to legislation and internal policy
  • Lead and or participate in internal and external audits / certifications (incl. for Halls S. Europe division)
  • Maintenance of Product Specifications and Customer documentation
  • Claims Management and taking responsibility for information gathering on issues. 
  • Conduct facility tours (suppliers & customers)
  • To be main point of contact for post-harvest technical product queries for N. Europe
  • Reporting on deviations from process
  • Traceability Testing
  • Customer visits
  • Timely reporting of business intelligence from Company statistical data to commercial team and supplier where appropriate
  • Work according to the Company IFS Audited Quality Management Standards
  • Identification and implementation of continuous improvements in QA procedures 

Experience skills and training

  • Tertiary education in food technology, food science or agronomy
  • 2 years’ experience in a quality assurance food technology role with specific focus on avocado and mango
  • Trained auditor
  • Full knowledge of industry certifications and audit standards such as IFS, BRC. Sedex, GlobalGAP.  Knowledge of BIO/Organic segment is desirable
  • Proficient with IT with intermediate MS Office skills and willing to undertake training in Company nominated IT Systems
  • Identification and implementation of continuous improvements in QA procedures



English & Dutch are essential. Spanish, German and / or French are a bonus

  • A true team player with a can-do attitude
  • Happy to understand and work within operational constraints but open minded to identify areas for improvement
  • Ability to communicate with people at all levels ie warehouse to commercial to operations to logistics, as required
  • To be flexible enough to prioritise and re-prioritise multiple tasks in a fast moving environment
  • Travel within Europe will be required.  There may be opportunities for overseas travel
  • Own car is essential
