Research Greenhouse Manager


The New Hampshire Agricultural Experiment Station (NHAES) within UNH’s College of Life Science and Agriculture is seeking applications for a Greenhouse Manager responsible for NHAES greenhouses in Durham, NH. The NHAES greenhouses cover approximate 25,000 sq. ft., and are managed with support of a full time staff assistant and part time undergraduate employees. The facilities support research on a diversity of species and production systems including conventional and certified organic, with a commitment to sustainable practices.


We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in greenhouse production and management. Under supervision of the NHAES director, the manager will oversee all activities required for successful operation of the greenhouse research and teaching facilities.

Responsibilities include:

1) management of day-to-day operations and record keeping,

2) coordination with researchers to implement best management practices and standard operating procedures,

3) allocation of space and resources for research and teaching,

4) training and supervision of technical staff and students including but not limited to worker safety training,

5) maintenance of facilities and equipment,

6) management of financial budgets and,

7) organization of stakeholder and outreach activities. The successful candidate will contribute to planned facility renovations.


Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Biology, Horticulture, or a related field, and have five or more years of experience working in greenhouse agricultural operations, including at least three years of supervisory experience.

Preferred qualifications include:

1) experience with environmental control and monitoring systems,

2) experience with a diversity of production systems,

3) ability to identify pests and diseases and help develop comprehensive IPM strategies,

4) capable of safely lifting 40 pounds and working under high temperatures and humidity,

5) experience in conducting or supporting agricultural research,

6) personnel and fiscal operations management experience,

7) training experience,

8) NH Commercial Pesticide Applicator license or ability to secure within a reasonable time period.
