Job offer - Grower Support Manager (Blueberries) - Harare, Zimbabwe

JOB TITLE:  Grower Support Manager (Blueberries)                            


LOCATION:  Harare, Zimbabwe with international travel


REPORTING TO:  Colin Colegrave / David Cuthbert


HOURS:  Full Time Permanent                                           





An all-encompassing role which will support the growth and development of Angus Soft Fruits Southern Africa and its growers.

This position will support growers from an agronomic, quality assurance, operational and business development perspective. 




This role will be primarily farm and pack house based, but international travel will also be required.  Working with our expanding grower group in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, we are looking for an individual who can support this growth in the following areas:


  • General Business Management – to support the day to day management of the business


  • Agronomy – to support new and existing growers in all areas of crop production including:
  • Site selection / soil suitability
  • Site establishment
  • Plant ordering
  • Cultural / Husbandry advice
  • Feeding & Irrigation strategies
  • Pest & Disease Scouting
  • Crop Protection
  • Overall Cropping Technique
  • Varietal Development


  • Quality Assurance – to support growers and pack houses in the following areas:
  • Understanding ASF & customer requirements and ensure sites are “audit ready” at all times
  • Monitor and report compliance against the ASFSA and customers quality specifications during picking and at pack houses prior to dispatch



  • Work closely with technical, procurement and supply chain colleagues to drive a QA and continuous improvement culture throughout the supply base
  • Participate on the daily conference calls (during season)
  • Carry out the required farm and pack houses supplier audits as per the audit schedule to demonstrate and maintain compliance, assisting in the resolution of non-conformances in a timely manner
  • Constructive and timely feedback to suppliers and ASF Technical team the outcome of the audits, non–conformances and agreed actions plans with deadlines. Quickly highlighting any Critical non-conformances and seeking advice from the ASF technical team on these
  • Develop and maintaining a close working relationship with all suppliers, ensuring confidence is established through clear and timely communication, sound evidence and judgement and a positive attitude to resolving any issues which may arise


  • Operations – working with management and growers in the following areas:
  • Picking / labour efficiency on farms
  • Forecasting of raw material availability to ASF commercial team
  • Packhouse procedures and efficiency
  • Logistics


  • Business Development – working with management to help bring on new growers to further expand the group.





Essential or Desirable

Qualification / Education / Experience:

·         Minimum 3 years’ experience in the produce industry

·         Berries experience

·         Agronomy Degree

·         Lead Technical Auditing training

·         HACCP qualification

·         Food Hygiene Training

·         Customer and industry farm audit experiences









Skills & Competencies:

·         Competent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, along with good report writing skills

·         Ability to adapt and drive improvements through complex supply chains

·         Ability to represent the technical function internally and externally

·         Ability to manage their own time effectively
