Alliance between Peruvian nursery and Chilean firm seeks to expand genetic and technological offer in plant propagation

Vivero Los Viñedos, a company with more than three decades of experience in Peru, has recently signed a strategic alliance with the Chilean firm SynergiaBIO, specialized in plant biotechnology. The agreement aims to strengthen local production of finished plants, including berry species, with high genetic and phytosanitary quality standards.

"The alliance will allow the local production of species, such as blueberries, incorporating state-of-the-art technologies. In nurseries, success is based on three pillars: Opportunity, quality, and plant health. The goal for the first year is to produce 2.3 million plants, with a projection of sustained growth," stated Jhon Rojo Hernández, manager of Vivero Los Viñedos.

Vivero Los Viñedos has sublicenses to propagate plants from different genetic houses, such as Bloom Fresh, Sun World, and Itum, among others. "Nurseries are the channel that connects genetics houses with producers. Without us, there would be no way to channel those proprietary plants," he stressed.

"The company has incorporated various technologies to improve its operation: In vitro propagation by meristems, technical management of greenhouses, automated irrigation systems, germination chambers, and plant management adapted to each agro-climatic zone. This is a fine detail business. From the substrate to drip irrigation, everything influences the final quality of the plant," Rojo stated.

In recent years, the nursery has expanded its portfolio beyond vines, venturing again into vegetables and promoting avocado, lemon, pomegranate, and olive plants. "We no longer offer just vines. Now, we offer a broad and diversified portfolio for Peruvian agro-exporters," he added.

Regarding market trends, Rojo highlighted the blueberry boom: "In two years we went from 200 to 400 million kilos, thanks to genetics that exceed 28 tons per hectare and to its cultivation in substrates, which allows planting it even in stony soils."

"We continue to automate processes and adapt technologies to improve production. Our motto is: 'Your success is our success.' The nursery fares well when producers fare well. That's our guiding principle," Rojo stressed.
